Description

Year: 2003
Media: face, scanner, PS 7, Painter 8

Thought I'd try scanning my face, and it actually turned out fairly flattering. So I uglied it up by attacking it with the burn tool and water colors so I'd look bruised and dead.

... oh, I though you just had acne.
Sorry, but you don't look bruised or dead.

Could have gotten rid of the acne, but I decided not to.
Sorry, but I didn't realize we had a resident dermatologist.

Hello Nailati,
Interesting idea. Your Profile however is by the look of it a true work of art. You could quite possibly have saved me time on my illustration titled "Justice".
You seem to have a dark streek in you.

i don't know about some of your guys but i thought dead... i guess i don't see enuff of the reals one then.... "its the fresh "t.v" dead"

Yeah, it's more of an interpretive "dead" look than a rotten.com "dead" look. Hyelander: I may upload the original scan under Downloads; it's less artistically interesting but more, well, alive. shadowgirl: It's fun, isn't it? I've scanned many parts of my body (not THOSE parts). BigCircus: Thanks for the compliment, and yes, the dark streak is a mile wide :).

I think you need to add blues and green to make it look bruised and dead. Red indicates blood still flowing beneath the surface. Make it purple and it will look like it's starting to coagulate.

Oh, and you should dirty the hair somehow.

That's sick. And I don't mean that in a good way. What the hell's the matter with you?

I couldnt put my hands or face on the scanner glass, I have a thing about keeping it clean. Nice idea though, well except the dead part.

Regardless of what some other people think this is not sick. There is a whole genre of this medium..a book "COPYART", by Patrck Firpo, Lester Alexander, Claudia Katayanagi and Steve Ditlea.published in 1978 byRichard Marek Publishers NY. It originally was a genre for artist's using copymachines [xerox]. If you can get hold of this book you will find it truly inspiring. Many of the styles and functions of photoshop etc come from artist's experimenting with copymachines. I like your scan, the hair is amazingly real, while the face/skin have an unreal quality. You could do a lot more with this in photoshop I think to experiment with. :) Great to see some experimentation going on.

HA HA thats a really neat idea i like how your hair falls around , and how your cheek is pressed on the glass -- and the colors are really compelling for some reason ... --Great stuff :)

I find you DO look dead. Especially if you were laying on that side, the blood settles and turns the skin pink and purple in the pores. And who said you were dead for a long time? I think you're in your very early stages... like... a few hours? ^0^ This turned out quite well for a scanned image of your face. I did the same before and it didn't turn out quite so flattering. XD

maybe u shouldnt add that bruise or dead affect..cuz i think the flow of hair is attracting more attention..hair looks very nice and detailed!
lol once i had tried scanning my face too...if u move your face while scanning u really get funny results!:p
